At first glance this painting seems a mass of the same greens with a few tree trunks. Look again because I tried to have you stay "Focused On The Center Tree". I played with layers of orange, yellow, turquoise, deeper blues, some royal purple and more to grab your attention. Many layers of paint and textures woven together were used to tell the story and complete this painting. The process took time and was a bit painful but before long the painting seemed to say...enough...."It Is Finished!". Thank you for stopping to read this and look, maybe even a bit longer than usual, at the center tree!

Sometimes I wonder if anyone thinks the colors I use in a painting are what my eyes see when viewing my inspiration. The answer is no. I just love to exaggerate and explore relationships between color families to tell the story of the moment. This painting illustrates a routine of gathering together and heading home. My goal was to push the colors in such a way that you might pause a moment to linger as you stared at the painting and then maybe go so far as to define for yourself what "Second Gathering" means to you. Many layers of texture and color weave together the multiple layers of meaning.

What are these cows up to? As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a city girl and I just love getting out away from home, driving past the open fields and wondering about the cows that I see hanging around! Are they bored? Are they happy standing around? Do they ever worry about anything? When I saw this group of cows gathered together under the tree I imagined this was their meeting place to discuss and review what was going on in each of their lives. (Ok, yes, I’m projecting a human experience onto them but it is my imagination so it’s allowed!) While watching these three I just couldn’t stop with imagining a group of 4-legged women discussing a variety of everyday topics but instead began to think about “When Two Or More Gather” that if they are capable then maybe they are actually praying about something. I know this is quite a stretch but I wanted to share the moment with you. Isn’t it nice to get away from normal expected routines to stretch your imagination? Take a break and get away from the stresses of everyday living and just appreciate what is out and around you....Enjoy!

Why are we so fascinated with water? We go to the beach and spend hours watching the waves. We find a pond and stare at the plants growing and look for life amongst them. This painting was inspired by a visit to an area near my home that I love to visit, an arboretum here in Houston, a gem hidden away in the middle of the city. It had been a hectic few days and just standing there and staring at the pond water was what I needed to relax. Yes, this was indeed “ Living Water”and the longer I stared at it my mind went to several references in The Bible that spoke of living water relating to a knowledge of God, a relationship with Him and the everlasting life that is available through Jesus. I tried to capture some of what I felt that day with paint and have it to share with you! Thank you for taking the time to read this and look at my painting!
