My close friends and family know that I “dislike” driving but always enjoy being the passenger. ( Too many drivers have used my car as their braking system!) As a passenger I’m able to take photos and have a chance to be inspired by the view without driving off the road! This painting, “The Road Is Still On The Map” was woven together from several scenes as my friend and I were exploring and I was trying to give directions from our paper map and our GPS / Google devices on a recent trip. We were often pleasantly surprised that the road we were on was on the map. In painting this I used many of the colors that actually existed but as always I exaggerated some to draw attention to the trees that otherwise are only glanced at... you know, just more green trees! So in naming this painting I was referring to the road we were on but also thought a bit more about life in general.... perhaps the road to happiness and light is still on the map, yes, even today it is able to be found! Enjoy your day and don’t stop “seeing” where you are going!

Have you ever found yourself in a place outside in nature that had you just throw your hands up to express joy and pure gratitude? Sometimes I just stop and stare in awe at the beauty of it all. I tried to express that in this painting with multiple layers of color that even though they are an odd mix, their placement creates a harmony reflecting the joy I find in observing creation. Yes, I am grateful indeed for the Creator and so I titled this painting "In Solitude Gratitude Expressed". Take time to look around, you might be surprised by what you experience! Thank you for stopping by and reading!

Do you see the building? Some miss it and just see the trees or they see it but don't think much about it. Shelter comes in many forms and when you need it the search begins. It is easy to miss that the shelter you need is right in front of you. We look high and low but the truth is what I'm trying to show in this painting and so I titled it "Shelter In Plain Sight". Isn't it a comfort to know that? It's not an easy concept but I have learned that it is indeed true. Next time you find yourself in need try looking right where you are and realize you are protected and sheltered from the storm by the Son!

I live in a city that has had incredible growth but I’m not always happy to see buildings destroyed to put up new ones. I am a bit nostalgic and wonder why buildings can’t just be restored. I looked to the landscape to watch how in nature an area can be altered by the years and evolve. Restoration appears to be an ongoing occurrence and perhaps a model for our lives. I named my painting of this landscape “Restoration” to remind me of the rebirth we can go through and yet still retain who we are, just with a fresh, clean start.

This photo does not nearly express the intent of this painting so I will try to use words instead. I viewed these cows quietly grazing far off from the road and just stopped to imagine a few things. What if we could all just calmly go about our day being the best human possible without complaint, just partaking in what was in our surroundings and being at peace with what we had. I believe that might change a few things for the better and so stopping to look at this scene might give us a glimpse of what some might label "As It Should Be" . I tried to use a design and colors that would express a calm, a sense of peace, even if they were a bit exaggerated as I tend to do. My hope is that you pause for a moment to use your imagination and even enjoy the painting! Thanks for reading! 20"x20"x2" Mixed Media on Canvas/Available Click HERE for more info.
I've been reflecting a bit more lately as I realize I have lived through several "life stages" and am grateful to still be here and enjoying life. I think many of us feel we can't accomplish our daily "to-do list" and we are overwhelmed but maybe rest should be a focus. I look at this painting with its textures and colors swirling and hope that I was successful in having the lighter area be the focus. I wanted to show that in the midst of activity we can rest in the strength of the Light and not be concerned with controlling all we see. Yes, maybe we should look in the mirror and say, "You Can rest Now"! 20"x16"x2" Mixed Media on Canvas/Available Click HERE for purchase info. Learn about my weekly art classesHERE
I love exaggerating the colors of the objects I paint but in this painting I tried to calm them down. I wanted to express the feeling of rest after going through a “storm”. The inspiration for this was an area in Houston that had been under water. As the water was receding and the clouds clearing the birds found food and in the stillness a beautiful glow of warm light blanketed the area. The light transformed the darkness and revealed the softened harmony of the landscape that was still standing after the crisis. The area was changed but I loved looking at the surviving trees and reflecting on how we weather storms and gather strength as the Light covers us and leads us through. Take a moment to look around and be inspired! 24"x18"x1.5" Mixed Media on Canvas/Available Click HERE for purchase info. Learn about my weekly art classesHERE

“Headed For Home” is the title for this painting and this time it seemed to name itself! I occasionally have a painting that not only paints itself (almost) but also has a strong identity. Home means different things but this painting tells the story of our hearts longing to be home, in a place of safety and comfort, a place we can be welcomed. The light is always on and leading us back home no matter where our travels lead. The light shown here represents to me the light of Christ as He leads the way home. I can’t add anymore to that!

Sometimes after I've been painting several hours I step back and am surprised to see an image I didn't purposely paint. In addition to those surprises some paintings seem to paint themselves with little effort. This painting, "The Way Out Is Up" is one of those special paintings. When I stand and stare at it with my eyes fixed on it all of a sudden I feel transported to the middle of a forest. I can hear the birds singing and the breeze gently rustling the leaves as a sense of calm pours over me. I was very surprised at how effortlessly this painting came together with all it's subtle greens and the light from above filtering through. The story behind the title for this painting is this...I get lost very easily and so how do I find my way? I need to look up...
In the forest if I was lost and if I had remembered any of my "cub scout mom lessons" I might have a compass with me but otherwise maybe I would look up and search for the sun to get an idea of the direction I was going. Outside of the forest and meandering through the "day to day messes" I have learned that the way out of those piles of trouble is to look up for the Son. Just thought I would share with you...it has been what has blessed me and been my comfort. Thank you for stopping to look at my painting and read this!

We are told we only get one chance at a first impression. Well, I was passing by this patch of trees and vegetation when I took a second look. I had to "Look Again" just because I didn't feel I gave the plants a fair chance to impress me with their beauty, their story. We all have a story and at first glance it might not seem attractive but look a second time and you might find a more colorful and delightful way to experience the view. This painting is my attempt to suggest that and I of course used a bit more color than is usually seen so maybe you will take a second look at the painting! Sometimes just surrounded by green trees and a bit of water can be so refreshing! Inspired by a day of walking when I finally stopped to rest. Not a bad spot to relax! Enjoy!

I'm always early for appointments. As I was standing around waiting for my day to begin the morning I saw this scene I was captivated by the strong sunlight on the back of the old building and as a result of the yellow glow on the building the shadows leaned towards purple. I did exaggerate the colors but I wanted to draw the viewer into the scene to suggest we look again at the simple shapes the light can reveal and to also realize that even the shadows have color and a story to tell. The shadows are just waiting for the Light to move over them to expose their beauty. Maybe you can discover some depth to an otherwise ordinary scene...so much to discover! Enjoy the day and the Light that leads the way!

After walking along a trail for a while under the cover of heavy thick growth I came upon an open area that felt as if I had experienced a "Breakthrough" in my journey. The time walking in the shadows seemed long and so the moment I found an opening, a change in the Light, I was relieved to see I wasn't lost. Can you relate? I wonder, how many times in my life will I experience a breakthrough and will I respond with appreciation and gratitude? I hope I am always grateful!

I’ve always enjoyed looking through those books showcasing beautiful gardens that seem to invite a visitor to sit and enjoy the view. Those get the attention but not all gardens are that spectacular. I am often grateful for a bit of shade and some unusual plants that have survived on their own to surround my bench or even just my blanket on the ground. I treasure the moments I can spend outside surrounded by the simple beauty of nature. It’s these times I first express sincere gratitude to the Creator of the creations and then rest in the moment. Yes, it must be repeated, gratitude is the position I take as I “Approach the Garden”. Perhaps the garden can be anywhere and everywhere...for this I am grateful!
