I took off one afternoon to explore a small town here in Texas near my home in Houston. It was refreshing to see the older buildings and to imagine their history and all the stories they hold. I think it's important to not forget some of our history and maybe even slow down some... I'm used to living in Houston but it was refreshing to walk around and take my time without being rushed. Contemporary Colorful Landscape Painting ,Mixed Media, Fine Art For Sale, “I am Your Strength” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

The title of this painting, “I Am Your Strength”, jumped off the pages of my prayer journal. For me, I know my strength is not from me but from my Creator and so when I saw this group of trees with the light blindly piercing through I was inspired to paint what represented the strength of God in my life. The curve of the trees represents the paths we take and yet they still stand and are able to support life. I love looking at trees and wondering about their journey through multiple hardships and am in awe that even the trees are supported by the same Creator that holds me up in all kinds of weather. I think this painting just keeps surprising me and I see more and more in it that I didn’t even realize I painted. The place and time that inspired this painting is very dear to me and life changing. So much to think about...!

Contemporary Colorful Landscape, Tree Painting, Mixed Media, “One Answer” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

I tend to look at the ground while walking so I don’t trip and fall again. I seem to break bones easily these days! When I did stop one day and look up, the scene was breathtaking! I just stood there and took the time to stare at the leaves of many colors and the light dancing on and through them. In my walk through life I’ve learned that my answers to questions come from above and so I created this painting, “One Answer” to illustrate that there is but one answer to my questions and it is to look up and listen to the Creator of all. Many people respond to this painting because of the contrast of colors and it’s drama. I hope this painting will be a blessing to anyone that takes a moment to look at it and allows it to tell you it’s message. Enjoy!

I’ve always enjoyed looking through those books showcasing beautiful gardens that seem to invite a visitor to sit and enjoy the view. Those get the attention but not all gardens are that spectacular. I am often grateful for a bit of shade and some unusual plants that have survived on their own to surround my bench or even just my blanket on the ground. I treasure the moments I can spend outside surrounded by the simple beauty of nature. It’s these times I first express sincere gratitude to the Creator of the creations and then rest in the moment. Yes, it must be repeated, gratitude is the position I take as I “Approach the Garden”. Perhaps the garden can be anywhere and everywhere...for this I am grateful!

The day was perfect as I set out hiking with a dear friend on a beautiful sunny day. I was enjoying time off from daily routines and ready for a new adventure. As we walked up on the scene that inspired this piece I became speechless. It was as if time stood still. Light came through the leaves in such a way that I felt as if I was looking through a stained glass window, similar to those in churches I attended long ago. Nature's chapel. Yes, it was a very good day!

At first glance this painting seems a mass of the same greens with a few tree trunks. Look again because I tried to have you stay "Focused On The Center Tree". I played with layers of orange, yellow, turquoise, deeper blues, some royal purple and more to grab your attention. Many layers of paint and textures woven together were used to tell the story and complete this painting. The process took time and was a bit painful but before long the painting seemed to say...enough...."It Is Finished!". This photo does not nearly express the intent of this painting so I will try to use words instead. I viewed these cows quietly grazing far off from the road and just stopped to imagine a few things. What if we could all just calmly go about our day being the best human possible without complaint, just partaking in what was in our surroundings and being at peace with what we had. I believe that might change a few things for the better and so stopping to look at this scene might give us a glimpse of what some might label "As It Should Be" . I tried to use a design and colors that would express a calm, a sense of peace, even if they were a bit exaggerated as I tend to do. My hope is that you pause for a moment to use your imagination and even enjoy the painting! Thanks for reading!

Hard to believe but the inspiration for this painting was a view of an area that was dry, with dead leaves and very few patches of green. I decided to paint this as I imagined it could be, filled with color and exaggerated brushstrokes on a vibrant red background. Yes, now this tells the story of what it could be or even what the area’s true identity really is.... Sometimes what our eyes perceive is not the whole truth, maybe there is more? Enjoy your day and practice looking a bit longer at your surroundings and maybe more will be revealed!

Contemporary Colorful Landscape, “Shelter in Plain Sight” by Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

Do you see the building? Some miss it and just see the trees or they see it but don't think much about it. Shelter comes in many forms and when you need it the search begins. It is easy to miss that the shelter you need is right in front of you. We look high and low but the truth is what I'm trying to show in this painting and so I titled it "Shelter In Plain Sight". Isn't it a comfort to know that? It's not an easy concept but I have learned that it is indeed true. Next time you find yourself in need try looking right where you are and realize you are protected and sheltered from the storm by the Son!

Contemporary Abstract Landscape, Fine Art Painting “Survived” by Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

I surprised myself when I used these colors to create this painting. I chose more neutral ones to be a backdrop for the sparks of random color peaking through instead of bold color throughout. I wanted to express how I felt when I viewed the remains of an area near my home that had survived a storm and saw new growth. In the middle of the death and sadness of the event I saw new life overcoming adversity and it was a reminder that yes we can go through the storm and there will be new life and a new beginning on the other side. Art can be healing. The title, “Survived”, is one we can all wear as we push through the our storms.

I tried to capture a glimpse of two worlds in a moment of parallel existence. "After The Fog Clears" is what I think to myself at times when there is just too much going on and I need to slow down and maybe even stop for a moment. This painting was inspired by a scene in my neighborhood that I saw after the morning fog was slowing clearing out. I found myself restless as I stopped and waited to see a clearer view of my surroundings. I later realized that the view I experienced during the time spent waiting was beautiful in it's serenity and deserved to be captured. I tried to express the calm by using a narrow range of colors (wasn't easy as I LOVE to use LOTS of color!) . I need to remember that the slow, foggy chapters of my life story have a purpose and it is for my good no matter how unclear at the time. Maybe painting this scene will help me remember? What has your experience been as you waited for the fog to clear in your life? This photo shows it hanging as it comes, in a light brown wooden frame. It is hanging in a grouping of several of my other small paintings available online as well.

Do you have fond memories of a childhood home and was there a special tree that lives as a landmark in your memories? This old oak tree is a classic here in my area and I have several at my home of over 30 years. I have watched them grow and love the outreaching limbs as they shelter us and the various wildlife that visit. I will always admire the strength of trees and will continue to paint them as they are an endless supply of inspiration. This has a more realistic color palette but I did put a few surprises in there...turquoise and magenta show up in some areas! Enjoy!

This painting is one of my smaller ones and I did it as an experiment to see how it would look to just "Choose Color" that is unexpected. I enjoy looking at the painting and now it just seems like a normal day in my studio, experiment time! I don't remember when I decided to give myself permission to be adventurous with the colors of my subjects but I believe as creators we should try new directions occasionally. I do try to work on good composition and a few other design elements to provide harmony even if my colors are exaggerated . Do you ever push the limits? Do you test the norm? When is it ok to do so?

I've been reflecting a bit more lately as I realize I have lived through several "life stages" and am grateful to still be here and enjoying life. I think many of us feel we can't accomplish our daily "to-do list" and we are overwhelmed but maybe rest should be a focus. I look at this painting with its textures and colors swirling and hope that I was successful in having the lighter area be the focus. I wanted to show that in the midst of activity we can rest in the strength of the Light and not be concerned with controlling all we see. Yes, maybe we should look in the mirror and say, "You Can rest Now"!

Road trip! Although I am not at all interested in driving on the freeways here in Houston, I occasionally entertain the idea of leaving the city and exploring the country by driving, not flying. Open skies, winding roads through mountains, breathtaking fields of color all seem like the exact prescription needed for recharging and inspiration. I am guilty of sticking to a familiar routine but I want to push myself to explore... to trust the road ahead to lead to new adventures. There is so much to see and experience...I hope to never stop being curious and "open to possibilities"!

We are told we only get one chance at a first impression. Well, I was passing by this patch of trees and vegetation when I took a second look. I had to "Look Again" just because I didn't feel I gave the plants a fair chance to impress me with their beauty, their story. We all have a story and at first glance it might not seem attractive but look a second time and you might find a more colorful and delightful way to experience the view. This painting is my attempt to suggest that and I of course used a bit more color than is usually seen so maybe you will take a second look at the painting! Enjoy!

Ok, I certainly took liberties when I painted these green trees with such vivid colors but I just had to! I was standing there and watched the sun's light bursting through the trees and just had to exaggerate the intensity of color in an effort to translate what I felt. There was such a peace and sense of security as the light bathed all in it's path in addition to an air of excitement as I sensed the moment was brief. After walking along a trail for a while under the cover of heavy thick growth I came upon an open area that felt as if I had experienced a "Breakthrough" in my journey. The time walking in the shadows seemed long and so the moment I found an opening, a change in the Light, I was relieved to see I wasn't lost. Can you relate? I wonder, how many times in my life will I experience a breakthrough and will I respond with appreciation and gratitude? I hope I am always grateful!

When driving out past the city I stopped to take a second look to capture the composition of the trees as they framed my view of the distant house and buildings. I could of stopped and just painted the trees in front of me but I think that sometimes it's nice to go past the obvious and strengthen our vision to observe what is really in front of us. I enjoyed capturing the shape of the trees and happy to have suggested there was life past the first glance. I have to constantly remind myself to stay focused and strengthen "The Vision" so I can appreciate all there is to see. To see is a blessing indeed.

Occasionally a painting shows up on my canvas as if someone else painted it. I was working on a different subject but then I experimented with some new tools and wow....these figures appeared! I had been going through a variety of emotionally charged changes then and yes I think this painting speaks to the subject of "Compassion". What emotions does this bring up for you when viewing? Anything? This painting seems to have a different message for each of us. Perhaps the title covers all reactions as we could always use more compassion. Contemporary Landscape Painting, Water Reflections, Swamp “The Beauty Within“ by Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

When I am looking for inspiration to begin a new series of paintings I look in a variety of places and at first I am drawn to the design and then the colors of the area. On this day I was surrounded by swamps, decaying vegetation and a pile of alligators! I decided to challenge myself and push through the non-descript colors to look for the "Beauty Within". I think it's a decent challenge to try to see past the surface "mud" and look to see what is beneath as we all might have a bit of color left in us to share! I am pleased with the outcome of this painting as I can see how there is beauty even in the ordinary. Aren't all creations worth a second look? Thank you for visiting!
